Mali Whorls

Mali Whorl beads are actually spinning wheel spindles.  They are handmade of clay by the Dogon tribe of Mali.

The main function was to balance and steady the spinning wheel in thread making.

They are decorated with tribal patterns and kept as heirlooms over many generations.  They also make great jewelry components.

Spindle whorls can be found in a wide variety of shapes, weights and colors.
